San Antonio is big enough to support a real performing scene — restaurant work, corporate functions, private parties — and big enough that nobody will see the same set twice. There is room to be bad in public for a while, which is how people get good.
Whether you are after card tricks, coin magic, mentalism props or something for a stage set, the range in San Antonio is the same range everyone else gets. Trick decks, gaff cards, expanded shells, forcing dice, sponge balls, cups, silks, canes and the gimmicks behind them.

Card magic
Trick decks do the heavy lifting while you learn: a Svengali deck forces a card without a single sleight, a marked deck tells you what they took, and a stripper deck lets you find it blind. Gaff cards, double backers and card gimmicks cover the rest. Most working repertoires are still mostly cards, and most of them start here.
San Antonio
Mentalism
The quietest magic and often the strongest. Forcing dice, mental dice boxes, prediction props, nail writers and marked material let you know a thought, a number or a word without ever touching a deck. It plays to adults, it plays in corporate rooms, and it leaves no prop to blame.

Starting out in San Antonio
The first year is about repetition, not acquisition. Pick one effect, perform it a hundred times for real people, and only then buy the second one. Everything in the beginner collection is chosen to survive that kind of use.

Magic around Texas
Las Vegas anchors the southwest, which means the regional standard for stage illusion is unusually high and there is steady paid work for close-up performers in restaurants and casinos.
