Philadelphia is big enough to support a real performing scene — restaurant work, corporate functions, private parties — and big enough that nobody will see the same set twice. There is room to be bad in public for a while, which is how people get good.
Searches for a magic shop in Philadelphia mostly turn up party-supply aisles and fancy-dress racks. What a performer actually wants is narrower: a decent deck that does something, a coin gimmick that stands examination, and a close-up mat to work on. That is what this catalogue is — props and gimmicks chosen by what survives performance, not by what fills a shelf.
Philadelphia
Mentalism
The quietest magic and often the strongest. Forcing dice, mental dice boxes, prediction props, nail writers and marked material let you know a thought, a number or a word without ever touching a deck. It plays to adults, it plays in corporate rooms, and it leaves no prop to blame.
Philadelphia
Stage and parlour
Props that read from the back row: appearing and vanishing canes, flower productions, linking rings in 30cm chrome, silks, flash bags and the larger apparatus. Stage material asks more of your staging than your fingers — the method is usually simple and the presentation is the whole job.

Starting out in Philadelphia
Nobody needs an expensive prop to start. The strongest beginner material in the shop costs less than lunch — self-working decks, sponge balls and forcing dice — and all of it still gets used by people who have been performing for twenty years.

Magic around Pennsylvania
The northeast has the densest concentration of magic clubs in the country, and New York in particular has a long close-up tradition running from Dai Vernon's circle through to the sessions still happening in the back of coffee shops.
