A city the size of Louisville usually has at least one magic club meeting monthly and a handful of working performers. Both are worth finding before you buy anything expensive: an hour watching someone competent is worth more than a prop.
Whether you are after card tricks, coin magic, mentalism props or something for a stage set, the range in Louisville is the same range everyone else gets. Trick decks, gaff cards, expanded shells, forcing dice, sponge balls, cups, silks, canes and the gimmicks behind them.

Card magic
Trick decks do the heavy lifting while you learn: a Svengali deck forces a card without a single sleight, a marked deck tells you what they took, and a stripper deck lets you find it blind. Gaff cards, double backers and card gimmicks cover the rest. Most working repertoires are still mostly cards, and most of them start here.
Louisville
Mentalism
The quietest magic and often the strongest. Forcing dice, mental dice boxes, prediction props, nail writers and marked material let you know a thought, a number or a word without ever touching a deck. It plays to adults, it plays in corporate rooms, and it leaves no prop to blame.

Starting out in Louisville
Beginners usually buy too much. One self-working deck, one coin gimmick and one routine you can perform without thinking is worth more than a shelf of props you half know. The decks under $15 are not the cheap option — they are what most professionals learned on.

Magic around Kentucky
Southern magic skews toward walk-around and family work: restaurants, fairs, church events and corporate functions. Material that plays to mixed ages earns more here than anything built for a bar.
