Magic supplies in Colon, St. Joseph County, Michigan
Colon, Michigan has about eleven hundred residents and calls itself the Magic Capital of the World, which for once is not a tourist board invention. Harry Blackstone Sr. bought a farm on Sturgeon Lake here in the 1920s, and in 1927 he and a local man named Percy Abbott founded a magic manufacturing company in the village.
The partnership collapsed within a year and the two men reportedly never spoke again, but Abbott stayed, and Abbott's Magic has been making and selling apparatus in Colon ever since. The company's Get-Together has run most summers since 1934, turning a village smaller than most high schools into the centre of American magic for one week a year. Magicians are buried in the local cemetery by the dozen.
